A Beacon for the Future

James Island Elementary Celebrates 10 years

Students at James Island Elementary School (JIES) are figuratively, and now literally “a Beacon to the Future.” The school recently celebrated it 10th graduating class, and the faculty, staff, and student body seized upon the opporutunity to show a little school spirit. The school’s Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) teachers and students took on the task of choreographing this commemorative photo, of the school symbol, the beacon.

Opened in August of 2003, JIES now educates a student body of nearly 500 students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Judging by what JIES NBCT Library Media Specialist Beth Hale Hale described as an “outpouring of enthusiasm” from students and teachers alike for the celebration, it looks like JIES is primed for another decade in which they can proudly say “Excellence is Our Standard.”
